Recent years have seen the Resident Evil series undergo a renaissance. The remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 brought back old fans and the innovative approach to the series in Resident Evil 7 earned plaudits and praise across the board.
That renaissance looks set to be complete with Resident Evil Village, a continuation of the storyline from the previous game but set in a new location featuring new enemies and new twists.
You play as Ethan Winters who has seemingly managed to put the horrors he experienced in the terrifying Baker Plantation behind him, living with his wife Mia in a new and peaceful place. You can never truly escape the past, however, and things soon go awry for our protagonist.
Returning to the series is Chris Redfield, now almost unrecognisable from his previous incarnations. He sets the game in motion, being the one to kidnap Ethan and whisk him away to the mysterious village which acts as the game’s primary location. What has happened to Chris is sure to be a central question weaved throughout the game, and we can’t wait to get some answers.
Also returning is the first-person perspective from Resident Evil 7, putting you right at the heart of the horror like never before. As you explore the village you’ll uncover secrets that maybe should stay buried as you fight for your life against a barrage of relentless hunters that seek to terminate you.
Like Resident Evil 7 before it, Resident Evil Village looks to be a re-imagining of everything that makes this series so popular. With new horrors to fight or flee, a location unlike anything seen in a Resident Evil game before, and a new foes both horrifying and beautiful, Resident Evil Village looks set to be the definitive Resident Evil experience.
