Everything You Need To Know About GTFO

Releasing in to early access late last year, GTFO is a hardcore first-person shooter, where you can team up with three other players to fight your way through an underground maze of horrors to complete missons for The Warden. It features a heavy focus on team play where taking your time, assessing the situation and planning ahead will be vital to your success. A dark and tense atmosphere and edge-of-your-seat suspense creates a unique and challenging experience.

What do you do in GTFO

First things first you’ll want to assess is your loadouts. You can customise what gear you wish to take with you on missions picking from various primary and secondary guns. As well as choosing from a number of different gadgets such as deployable auto turrets, motion detectors or mine launchers. Picking the right tools for the job can and will change depending on the mission, so don’t be afraid to mix things up now and again.

In GTFO you will be carrying out missions for a mysterious entity known as The Warden as you’re held captive as his prisoners. The Warden is the one who controls the Rundown - an ever changing mission hub. The Rundown features a set number of missions on a countdown timer. Once that timer expires the missions will be replaced by a new set of missions with new objectives to complete. The lower down the Rundown you go the harder your missions will become.

During a mission you will have one main objective to complete, but you will need to complete a number of smaller objectives along your way. Each mission location has a set layout that remains the same every time you attempt it. However, things like enemy types and locations will change each time. To help you in your mission you can interrogate terminals around the map that will provide you with key information and guide you towards your goal.

Whilst on your missions expect to face a difficult challenge when navigating the mysterious underground complex. In order to survive you will have to work together and use good communications when trying to tackle the horrific inhabitants lukring in the dark. Ammo is scarce, enemies are deadly and rushing through will end very badly. This is not a run and gun game. Be prepared to die, but to learn from those deaths to help you through your next run.

GTFO Reception

It needs to be remembered that GTFO is currently in early access meaning the current game is incomplete. That also means that things are subject to change throughout the development lifecycle.

That being said, GTFO is currently sitting with 89% positive reviews from a little over five thousand reviews on steam. It’s clear that GTFO is being well received by players.

The thing with early access games is that a lot of the bigger outlets tend not to review them as they’re still a work in progress. However, a few are giving some of their first impressions of which you can check out a few below.

Polygon - GTFO is like a darker and deadlier Left 4 Dead

Rock Paper Shotgun - Hands on with GTFO, the best way to panic as a group since Killing Floor
